We, Randy and Aleitha, decided on the plane on the way here that we may become ghost writers for the Mystic Journey blog while we are here; and here we are!! after four flights and an overnight stay in San Juan, which was quite delightful, complete with a Puerto Rican beer at poolside, a walk to the beach, a dip in the ocean, a lovely nap in air conditioned comfort, out for an authentic Puerto Rican dinner, and, with the waitress’s recommendation, an evening visit and walk around Old San Juan, and a dip in the Jacuzzi before bed.
Feeling much refreshed after a solid night’s sleep in San Juan (we had next to no sleep on the overnight flight from Seattle to Orlando) we arrived in Fort de France in one (actually two) pieces plus much luggage. As we were dropped by the taxi at the corner near Sea Services we wondered where we would meet Griff and Cheryl. Lo and behold there they were across the street and off we headed to the dingy with luggage in tow. Two trips to the boat and it was home sweet home! Temperature on arrival was 28 C, a mild 88 F.
We unpacked into our cabin “home away from home” and felt comfortable immediately. Cheryl cooked spaghetti for dinner and after were introduced to the Nintendo “DS” game, which we are told will be a daily brain test. For those of you who know the game, let’s just say that Randy and I are more than “showing our age”. We have high hopes for improvement daily! We played two games of crib with girls against the guys – tonight is the rubber!
Today we had Skipper cook breakfast while Cheryl did their taxes and after lazing around with coffee and tea we headed into Fort de France and walked around many of the shops and markets. Before heading back to Mystic Journey, Randy and Griff cleared us out at customs and we are officially considered “crew”. Randy is doing very well so far (re: sea sickness} and tomorrow we leave this anchorage for Anse d’Arlet where we will determine whether one or two nights stay are warranted before heading south to St. Lucia, Rodney Bay.
This is Randy and no I am not green. I am very surprised I haven’t been sick at all. I have every sea sickness medicine known to man. We are so blessed to be here. I would love to have the boys (and you Laura) down here. The children would have a great time. I will add some more soon (after my nap and a swim in the ocean).
This is the original us with a couple of comments or additions. We too are happy Randy is not feeling the ill effects of the ocean. They brought none of those little bags that are supplied on airplanes!! It was so special to see Aleitha and Randy across the road – luggage dragging behind but with happy faces – when they arrived.
A couple of things they didn’t mention about today. The saying goes “save water, shower with a friend” – well we did today. Actually we all took a dip in the ocean and washed and the ladies washed their hair. The shower part comes after we had gotten out and used the sun showers that we keep full of fresh water and leave out to heat in the sun. The water actually gets almost hot enough sometimes to feel like it could burn but it is the perfect ending to a refreshing dip in the ocean. Tomorrow they get their first taste of actual sailing. We chose a fairly short cruise to a less crowded place (the anchorage isn’t crowded here but the city is) but we should get a chance to do some sailing and we will then have a good run in a couple of days to St Lucia.
